At American Pavement Systems we specialize in blending asphalt rubber binders for chip seal work and hot plant supply.
Over the past 20 years, we have owned and operated several different types of asphalt rubber blending plants from many different manufacturers. In 2015, we purchased two D&H asphalt rubber plants.
On the blender, we decided to install the D&H Horizontal Mixing Chamber instead of the typical 500 gallon mix drum, which has been the standard in the asphalt rubber industry for many years. On our first project, we blended 19% crumb rubber at a rate of 52.93 TPH!
We have never been able to achieve anywhere close to these production rates with a standard mix drum. In addition, we had a consistent 35°F heat increase going through the heat exchanger at this production rate.
The reaction vessel is a 30,000 gallon 2-compartment tank. It was ordered without any direct fire burners and relies strictly on heat transfer oil produced from the 3mm BTU heater on the blender.
On a full compartment, we recognized 26°F temperature increase per hour, which is a pleasant surprise, because you can never have too much heating ability. D&H has a long history in the asphalt rubber industry and it shows in the quality and performance of their equipment. In my opinion, no other asphalt rubber blending equipment compares to D&H in performance, quality, comfort for the operator and simplicity to operate.

In 2005, Nor-Cal Blending LLC was formed out of the frustration of being held hostage to the schedules of the then current asphalt rubber blending contractors.
Starting with an old used Heatec plant from the early 90’s, we quickly learned about blending asphalt rubber the hard way. We also quickly learned what we wanted on our next plant.
In 2007, we purchased our second plant. This upgrade was purchased used, directly from the manufacturer in Arizona. Our old Heatec plant was put out to pasture. Even though this plant was newer, we still desired something that would be more efficient and easier to use.
In 2009, when we found D&H Equipment, we were very happy with our discovery for several reasons. Not only were they manufacturers of blending equipment, many of the folks on their staff had extensive experience working for blending contractors as well. So they understood where were coming from. We were in the unique situation of already having a reaction tank from another manufacturer, but D&H easily incorporated our reaction tank with the design of our new blending system.
From our positive experiences with D&H equipment, we purchased our second D&H plant in 2010 and have plans to continue our expansion with D&H Equipment.

In 2008, we purchased a rubber blending plant from another manufacturer. After the sale, that equipment turned out to be sub-standard. We had a lot of trouble with the rubber reaction tank, the plumbing was all wrong and the blending augers failed after a short time.
As we could get no help from the manufacturer, we had no choice but to get a different Reaction tank. In October of 2009, I contacted D&H Equipment and went to Blanco, Texas to look at their products. I was very impressed with the reaction tank they were building in their shop. The tank was built way better than the tank we bought from the other manufacturer.
They quoted us for the new tank and we purchased it. They delivered the tank on the day quoted and we put it into service right away. D&H Equipment sent a service technician to make sure we were satisfied with the operation of the tank.
Now, we are buying a D&H blending unit to go with the tank.

Service - D&H Thinks Ahead and Delivers
We are very pleased with the performance of D&H Equipment, especially in regards to service.
One of our concerns when we decided to buy an asphalt rubber blender to operate in Africa was service. We were afraid that we would be lost in the wilderness (literally) without support.
We had the pleasant surprise of receiving the equipment with all the required spare parts to address even the most unlikely breakdowns. When one occurred, as they always do, we found that D&H knew their equipment inside out; pinpointing the problem with a few phone calls and internet pictures. They clearly instructed us how to repair the equipment. Surprisingly, in a week we got the spare part we had just used up... (Amazingly, FED EX does really deliver any place in the world).
Basically, D&H does come through when they are needed and they have always delivered on their promises.
